Every man has a right to utter what he thinks truth, and
every other man has a right to knock him down for it.
I want you people to consider the point that Freedom of
speech is the basic need of a society.
The right to free speech
is one of the most precious rights that an individual has. This right gives
people the opportunity to speak their mind and give their opinions of what they
think should happen. These rights have been questioned and exercised throughout
history, and have produced extremely positive things in a lot of cases.
The freedom of speech reminds me the famous speech
of Martin Luther king, a leader of Blacks of America, and his famous speech in
Washington D.C, which urged Abraham Lankan the President of America to give
equal rights to the blacks. This freedom of speech does not belongs to
Americans only, Islam gave this idea of freedom of speech 1432 years before
when in the Khutba-e-hajatul wida Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.) said that no white have any superiority on
Blacks and no Arab have superiority over non-Arab.
Another example of Freedom of speech comes from the
Caliphate of Hazrat Umar (R.A). Once Muslims were dividing the luggage taken
away from the enemies during the war. The piece of cloth which came in the part
of Hazrat Umar was not big enough to make full dress for Hazrat Umar (R.A).
When the people of Madina saw Hazrat Umar wearing that cloth, a common man
raised finger on the ruler of that time to give justification.
At that time Abdullah Bin Umar, son of Hazrat Umar
(R.A) justified his father saying that he has given his part of cloth to his
father. This is freedom of speech in Islam, where even a ruler is answerable to
the ordinary people.
Freedom of speech is a basic right that a person has
and if a ruler will snub this right from
common man than it results in revolutions. In the present time the rule
of Zain-ul-Abdin remained over Tunisia for 30 years and during his rule people
were suppressed through force but when the people came on the road that ruler
has to fly for the server palace of Saudi Arabia.
The concept of freedom of speech is badly damaged in
Pakistan. We the peoples of Pakistan are not ready to listen Nazir Naji because
he is a Pro-government journalist, we are not ready to listen Shahid Masood
because he is an Anti-government journalist and we are not ready to listen
Mulla because he Islam which makes him a so called fundamentalist.
If a student speaks about islam on this dice then
his speech becomes bias because he speaks about Islam. If we are not ready to
listen anything about Islam then we should all make a protest in front of our
parliament to replace the name of this state from Islamic Republic of Pakistan
to Secular Republic of Pakistan.
In short we have to be tolerant enough in order to
listen others otherwise it will leave disastrous effects on us.
